<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device that, in a drive apparatus for a hybrid vehicle, relieves a driver of a large shock of switching from motor drive to engine drive and practically relieves the driver of a buildup lag of driving torque behind the driver's request. <P>SOLUTION: Upon the determination that the shift end timing of an automatic transmission part 20 and the start of an engine 8 will overlap, an overlap execution restriction means 86 starts the engine 8 after shifting the automatic transmission part 20. This eliminates an overlap between a start shock of the engine 8 and a shift shock of the automatic transmission part 20 to relieve a driver of a large shock. Upon the shift output, an engine speed N<SB>E</SB>is increased for the engine start.
