PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insolubilized polyvinyl alcohol fiber aggregate that has excellent water resistance and hardly shrinks in hot water, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The fiber aggregate contains an insolubilized polyvinyl alcohol fiber insolubilized with a polymer containing an acid anhydride group or a carboxy group. The fiber aggregate is produced by (1) the step of dissolving a polyvinyl alcohol and a polymer containing 0.01-0.1 mol of a polymer containing an acid anhydride group or a carboxy group based per 1 mol of the monomer unit of the polyvinyl alcohol in a solvent to dissolve any of them to prepare a spinning dope, (2) the step of spinning the fibers by using the spinning dope, (3) the step of collecting the fiber to form a fiber aggregate, and (4) the step of heating the fiber aggregate at 100-200°C to insolubilize the fiber aggregate.
