The present invention relates to a method of, and apparatus for, performing message modification. In existing methods in which messages such as SMS messages which have a maximum size per message are sent, messages of much smaller than this size are sent separately, leading to inefficiency. Embodiments of the invention provide a method and apparatus for modifying a message for transmission in a data communications network, in which the message body of one message is appended to a further message, the combined message then being sent to a specified recipient. This provides an efficient, cost effective method of transmitting messages.
