PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save an useless time required for making a data base for retrieving music in a reproducing device. SOLUTION: The reproducing device provided with a recording means recording a contents file, and a data base making means making a data base which enables retrieving a contents file by the prescribed category with the prescribed timing based on meta-data of the contents file recorded in the recording means, is provided with selecting means 32, 34 selecting propriety of operation of the data base making means for the contents file recorded in the recording means.
