PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which residual ink received in an ink receiving chamber is fed to a waste liquid tank without being solidified. SOLUTION: The printer 1 comprises a member 16 for supporting a print medium 2 while mounting, a print head 13 which is provided with a nozzle for ejecting ink downward and reciprocating freely above the medium supporting member, and a maintenance device 20 installed oppositely to the lower portion of the print head and receiving the residual ink ejected from the nozzle at the waiting position of the print head. The maintenance device has a chamber 35 opening upward and receiving residual ink ejected from the nozzle, and a portion 24 for injecting a liquid into the ink receiving chamber when the print head is separated from a position opposing the ink receiving chamber up and down.
