PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing glycerol by which a reduced glycerol compound consisting of one or more kinds selected from 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol can be obtained in a high yield. SOLUTION: The glycerol is reduced by making an ion exchange resin having≤10×10<SP>6</SP>ppm SO<SB>2</SB>concentration based on 1 equivalent measured under conditions of 10 mL/min nitrogen gas flow rate, 5 K/min heating rate and 418 K atmospheric temperature coexist with the glycerol, hydrogen and Ru.
