1280250 Feeding webs RICOH KK 3 Dec 1970 [16 Dec 1969] 57410/70 Heading B8R An electrophotographic copying machine 6, 7, 10 is fed with copy paper from a roll 1, the paper passing into the machine by way of feed rollers 3 and a cutter 4 which are electrically controlled so as to cause the paper to be severed in equal portions of predetermined length; a photo-electric sensing arrangement 11-14 senses the presence or absence of the paper at a predetermined position A which is so located that when the arrangement senses the passage of the trailing end of the copy paper past the position A it provides a signal indicating that the remaining paper is of sufficient length for obtaining only one more portion of said predetermined length, said signal being operative to halt operation of the cutter 4 so that the said remaining paper can pass through the cutter uncut. Thus the possibility of jamming the machine by feeding through a sheet of paper less than the required predetermined length is avoided. Warning means, e.g. a lamp or buzzer associated with the sensing arrangement, indicating the absence of paper at point A may be provided. A suitable circuit arrangement for the control and sensing system is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). |
