<p>A mobile communication system is provided to enable a portable terminal to re-set a communications cycle with a base station in case the portable terminal is positioned in a weak electric field area. A mobile communication system for reducing the battery consumption of a portable terminal comprises the following steps. A reception portable terminal(104) measures the radio signal strength, and then when being located in a weak electric field area, performs a power saving mode changing the communications cycle with the base station(102). In case the base station receives a call connection request from a calling portable terminal(100), it checks the state of the reception portable terminal to which the call connection is made. While the reception portable terminal performs the power saving mode, it informs the calling portable terminal of the fact.</p> |
