<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the output of an ultrasonic motor by enhancing the exciting force of vibration generated in a rectangular-plate-shaped vibrating body. <P>SOLUTION: An ultrasonic motor includes a vibrating body having a piezoelectric element, and a moving body in contact with the vibrating body; and the phases of two different vibrations occurring in the vibrating body are changed, to make the moving direction of the moving body or the vibrating body itself variable, by selecting whether to apply a drive signal to a first electrode group provided on one face of the piezoelectric element, or to apply a drive signal to a second electrode group provided at a part whose polarization direction differs from that of the first electrode group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
