PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably prevent document data from deteriorating without being affected by characteristics of connected external output equipment. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a correction pattern generating unit 1h which generates a pattern containing a plurality of dots present in a non-print area and judges whether the generated pattern contains undesired print dots; and a correction executing unit 1j which decides whether there are undesired print dots in a print area as a result of the judgement whether an arrangement of dots which matches an arrangement of undesired dots in the pattern judged to contain the undesired print dots and is different from color component data of a background color of the print area is present in the print area, substitutes color component data of the background color of the non-print area for the color component data of the undesired print dot when it is judged that there are the undesired print dots as a result of the judgement, and substitutes the color component data of the background color of the print area for the color component data of the background color of the non-print area when color component data matching the color component data of the background color of the non-print area are present in the print area.
