PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane/electrode assembly for a fuel cell and a direct methanol fuel cell, effectively removing generated water and electrolyte membrane percolating water staying around a border of a cathode electrode and the electrolyte membrane, supplying reaction gas efficiently around the border of a cathode electrode and the electrolyte membrane, and stably exhibiting high performance for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The membrane/electrode assembly includes a hydrogen ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane, a cathode electrode and an anode electrode, and also includes a diffusion auxiliary layer between the cathode electrode and the hydrogen ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane.
