The method involves fastening sensors (110,112) on the vehicle. The inclination of a vehicle body is determined around the transverse axis of the vehicle relative to a roadway, on which the vehicle is located, and emits corresponding sensor signals (114,116) and dynamically varies the light width of a headlight depending on a sensor signal. The vibration behavior of the sensor signal is evaluated in such a manner that recognizes a defect of the sensor.
