In a memory system of magnetic cores 10 arranged in a planar matrix 20 an inhibit winding comprises two subwindings 21, 22. Voltage pulse sources 26, 28 are arranged to apply simultaneous pulses of substantially equal width and amplitude but of opposite polarity to the ends 29 of subwindings 21, 22 respectively. The other ends of the subwindings may be connected through respective resistors 23, 24 to a common reference potential, e.g. earth, or they may be connected to separate different reference potentials. It is stated that the inhibit winding may be energized with substantially no effect on the sense winding 17. Alternative arrangements of the inhibit subwindings are described with reference to Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). |
