<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driverless imaging of documents. <P>SOLUTION: In this imaging method, a direct imaging application 110 on a client device 108 sends an imaging request message to another device 104. which may be a direct imaging server or a target image processor. The imaging request message corresponds to an imaging job to be executed on the target image processor 102. In response to receiving the imaging request message, the other device may create an imaging job skeleton that includes contents of a complete imaging job suitable to the target image processor other than document data. The other device 104 may send a despooling request to the direct imaging application 110. The despooling request may indicate where the document data corresponding to the imaging job should be despooled.
