PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of quickly recording image data without rereading a document and without rerecording the image data. SOLUTION: A multifunction device 1 equipped with a read unit 13 which reads the document to acquire the image data, first and second mount units 23a and 23b where recording media M are mounted detachably, and a recording unit 21 which sequentially records the image data acquired by the read unit 13 to the recording media M includes a capacity detecting means for detecting the capacity of a recording medium M, a capacity judgement means of judging the free capacity is larger than prescribed capacity on the basis of the detection result of the recording medium M, an interruption means for interrupting the acquisition and the recording of the image data when the capacity judgement means judges that the free capacity os less than the prescribed capacity during the acquisition and recording of the image data, and a restarting means for restarting the acquisition and the recording of image data when the capacity judgement means judges that the free capacity is larger than the prescribed capacity during the interruption of the acquisition and the recording of the image data.
