PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trainer apparatus capable of shortening training time for determining the optimum data transfer rate to/from a trainee apparatus, and to provide a training method. SOLUTION: A frequency setting value for setting the frequency of a training signal and the change width of the frequency setting value are initialized. Then, the training signal of the frequency to be set based on the frequency setting value is transmitted to the trainee apparatus through a transfer line, and a response signal from the trainee apparatus is received through the transfer line. An error is detected from the response signal. Processing for increasing/decreasing the frequency setting value for the portion of the change width in response to the detection result and also decreasing the change width by prescribed ratio is repeated twice or more, so as to obtain a result.
