The device has an imaging unit producing image data of articles (1) e.g. meat. A computer (11) computes cut positions at which the articles are to be cut. A cutting unit cuts the articles at the positions. A hold-down device is provided before the cutting unit and above a conveying unit (3) to press against the conveying unit from above. A V-shaped conveyor belt (4) is guided on guide rollers and over a pressure element. A hand-hold device-drive is moved upward or downward around the hold-down device in a straight line to increase or decrease the integrity of the conveying unit.
