<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader-writer device and an article management system capable of directly outputting information to a subordinate apparatus, without double detecting this fact when a detecting object enters, without outputting information in this case, by accurately determining even when re-returning in a passing area, by automatically reading in response to the respective directions even when entering from any reciprocal direction. <P>SOLUTION: This reader-writer device and the article management device having this reader-writer device, have a control part for starting reading by a reading part when a sensor 9a<SB>1</SB>detects the detecting object and finishing the reading when a sensor 9a<SB>2</SB>detects the detecting object, and are formed so that the control part outputs the information to a host apparatus or the subordinate apparatus connected to an output port based on the information of a read radio tag.
