PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil strainer capable of preventing oil from flowing intensively through a specific area of a filter and preventing an increase of an oil passage pressure loss even in a long term use. SOLUTION: This oil strainer 10 is provided with a case 15 having a flow-in port 25 and a flow-out port 35, the filter 40 arranged to divide the inside of the case 15 into a flow-in port side and a flow-out port side and collecting foreign matters in oil, a valve element 50 arranged in the case 25 and opening and closing the flow-in port 25, and a coil spring 58 pressing the valve element 50 toward the flow-in port 25 and energizing it to normally close the flow-in port 25. When the valve element 50 opens and oil passes through the flow-in port 25, oil is made to collide with the valve element 50 which blocks the flow-in port 25 and is diffused in a circumference, and the oil is prevented from intensively flowing in the specific area of the filter 40.
