摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display capable of preventing the generation of gradation crushing at least on one portion out of the vicinity of a maximum gradation and the vicinity of a minimum gradation, while avoiding the complicatedness of a data line driving circuit and capable of realizing animation display of high image quality, in a TN (Twisted Nematic) mode. SOLUTION: The data line drive circuit generates the prescribed number of output voltages which is equal to the prescribed number of gradations, on the basis of reference voltages V0 to V19, selects a voltage corresponding to an input image signal from the output voltages and outputs the selected voltage to a display part to perform the gradation display of image. The liquid crystal application voltage-luminance characteristics of the display part has a luminance change zero area in which a change of luminance with respect to changes in the voltage applied to liquid crystal is almost zero, and reference voltages V9 (positive) and V10 (negative), corresponding to the maximum gradation (white display 255 gradations) are set in the luminance-change zero area. Reference voltages V8 (positive) and V11 (negative), corresponding to a gradation lower than the maximum gradation by one gradation, are set so that the luminance of the gradation is set lower than the luminance of the maximum gradation only by a prescribed luminance difference.
