PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition which permits the adsorption of nucleic acids to a solid phase under low salt conditions. SOLUTION: The adsorption of nucleic acids comprises using bis-benzimidazolium cation, bis-imidazolium cation and bis-guanidinium cation which are bis-cationic organic compounds for promoting the adsorption of the nucleic acids from an aqueous solution to a solid phase, such as silica. The adsorption is caused under low salt conditions. In addition, provided are a method suitable for eluting nucleic acids from a solid phase containing adsorbed nucleic acids for the isolation of the nucleic acids from an aqueous solution, and a kit therefor.
