A negative electrode active material for a secondary battery and a secondary battery containing the same as a negative electrode are provided to improve cycle efficiency and cycle capacity of a secondary battery due to enhanced conductivity and decreased electric resistance by controlling the electric resistance rate to become 0.1 or less. A negative electrode active material for a secondary battery is manufactured by coating low crystalline carbon to a carbon core material and calcining it. The electric resistance rate of the negative electrode active material is 0.1 or less. The carbon core material is a single or a mixture selected from the group consisting of a natural graphite and artificial graphite.
