The device has an ultrasonic sensor (8) arranged at a region of a cable unit, and determining parameters of a flow medium e.g. gas or air. A unit for damping sound waves with an interfering frequency of the flow medium is arranged on a region of the cable unit. The flow medium lies at a measuring region of the ultrasonic sensor, and a bluff body is inserted into the cable unit. The bluff body consists of a non-metallic material such as polyoxymethylene, and is formed for accommodation of a membrane. An independent claim is also included for a method for damping sound waves of interfering frequency.
