The method involves taking off lacquer wastes of a lacquering cylinder (6.1) during machine discharge by unprinted or incompletely printed side of a sheet (7). A set of printing units (1-5) of a printing machine (10) is arranged for printing the sheet side in the lacquering unit in a sheet transportation direction (8). The printing units are temporally pressure-switched off before the lacquering unit. A sheet feeder (11) of the printing machine is stopped by a stopper or due to completion of the printing operation to convey the sheet to the printing units.
