<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain required luminance for each region in a backlight device capable of controlling luminance of light-emitting faces for each region. <P>SOLUTION: LEDs 11 arranged on a bottom face of the backlight device are divided in a plurality of regions 13, and a luminance of a light-emitting face corresponding to each region 13 is measured by a photosensor 12 arranged at around the center of each region 13, and at the same time, luminance of the LEDs 11 included in the region 13 is adjusted based on the measured luminance.
