<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminating device and a liquid crystal display device capable of improving an efficiency in luminance while alleviating a luminous gradient all over the display surface, even under such limited conditions as space saving and low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The illuminating device has a high-frequency power supply 12 to illuminate a U-shaped discharge tube 11, and arranges a plurality of U-shaped discharge tubes 11 in parallel. A high voltage is input to an electrode in one end of the U-shaped discharge tube 11 from the high-frequency power supply 12, and a low voltage is output from another electrode of the tube 11 to the high-frequency power supply 12. Each of the input voltages has the same voltage level, same phase, and same frequency. The relative positional relation of input and output of the U-shaped discharge tube 11 is reverse to the positional relation of input and output of the tube installed adjoining to the initial tube 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
