PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a metal material including a carburizing treatment process in which the pretreatment is simple, and a carburizing treatment can be easily carried out by using ordinary equipment, while a portion of the surface of the metal material can be subjected to carburizing processing. SOLUTION: The carburizing treatment process includes a heat treatment process for heat treating a component 1 to be subjected to carburizing treatment in a heat treating surface after a coating process for coating a sliding surface 3 of the component 1 to be subjected to carburizing treatment with an agent 4 which contributes to carburization.
