PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a synchronizing signal precisely by causing no cost increase. SOLUTION: The optical scanner comprises a light source having a plurality of light emitting portions, a polygon mirror for deflecting light from the light source, a scanning optical system for condensing light deflected by the polygon mirror to a photosensitive drum, and a synchronism detection sensor for receiving a plurality of light beams for detecting synchronism deflected by the polygon mirror and passed through the scanning optical system. The main light of the plurality of light beams (ch10, ch40) for detecting synchronism intersect mutually between the scanning optical system 11 and a plane Pzm equivalent to the image plane with regard to the subscanning direction, and the light receiving surface of the synchronism detection sensor 18 is arranged at a position shifted to the side of intersecting position from the plane Pzm equivalent to the image plane.
