The invention relates to an assembly (10) for the electric steering column (12) of an automotive vehicle, of the type comprising a steering shaft (20) connected to a steering wheel (14), and of the type in which elastic return means (26) are provided between a structural member of the vehicle bodywork and the steering shaft (20) for returning the steering wheel (14) to a zero-angle position, characterised in that the elastic return means (26) include a connecting-rod and crank mechanism including and eccentric means (28) rotatingly connected to the steering shaft (20), a telescopic connecting rod (30) elastically deformable under compression and having one end (32) pivotally coupled by a pivot to the eccentric means (28) while the other end (34) is pivotally coupled to the structural member of the vehicle bodywork.
