VERTICAL MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

Provided is a vertical magnetic recording medium on which recording is more easily performed without deteriorating thermal stability. In the vertical magnetic recording medium, at least a soft magnetic lining layer (2), a base layer (3) and a magnetic recording layer are sequentially laminated on a nonmagnetic base body (1). The magnetic recording layer is provided with at least a first magnetic recording layer (5), a second magnetic recording layer (7) and a third magnetic recording layer (8). A coupling layer (6) is arranged between the first magnetic recording layer (5) and the second magnetic recording layer (7). The first magnetic recording layer (5) and the second magnetic recording layer (7) having the coupling layer (6) in between are ferromagnetically coupled and are composed of a granular structure. The first magnetic recording layer (5), the second magnetic recording layer (7) and the third magnetic recording layer (8) have magnetization easy axes in a direction vertical to the nonmagnetic base body surface.
