<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new fuel cell having large output/volume ratio which uses combustion of fuel but meets a demand for high output power. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes a fuel cell stack 2 in which a plurality of fuel cells 16, each of which has an anode layer 12 on one side of an electrolyte layer 10 and a cathode layer 14 on the other side, are arranged so that the same electrode layers 12 or 14 of adjacent cells 16 are opposed and spaced each other in parallel multilayer arrangement. The space between the opposite anode layers 12 is less than a quenching distance of the fuel supplied as a mixture gas with oxygen or oxygen containing gas and the anode layer 12 contains a catalyst which promotes catalytic combustion of the fuel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
