PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain stable combustion irrespective of alcohol concentration by performing reduction of NOx and deposit and carbureting fuel sufficiently according to alcohol concentration. SOLUTION: External EGR quantity is adjusted by EGR valve, and internal EGR quantity is adjusted by overlap period of intake and exhaust valves. Then, total EGR quantity is controlled according to ethanol concentration. EGR quantity is being reduced when ethanol concentration is in an EGR inhibition concentration range L, and is being increased when ethanol concentration is in a high concentration range M exceeding boundary concentrationβ.
