PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding device for easily holding a measuring device with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The holding device 200 for holding a detecting head into a predetermined position of a main scale in a linear scale including the main scale and the detecting head movably provided at the main scale and having a detecting means for detecting the moving amount with respect to the main scale, has a holding body 210 having a main abutting surface 210B abutting on a head facing surface 113; claw parts 212 extending along the head facing surface 113 from the holding body 210 and inserted between the main scale and the detecting head; a piece part 220 inserted through a head moving groove 114 from the holding body 210 and having a piece engaging part 222 engaged with the head moving groove 114; and a holding-moving screw 230 for moving the piece part 220 to engage the piece engaging part 222 with the head moving groove 114.
