PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for rapidly and efficiently identifying and targeting a specific cell in complex population found in a biological tissue. SOLUTION: The above problem is solved by providing an apparatus for electromagnetically affecting prescribed particles in a specimen (600). The apparatus, specifically, includes a sample stage (500) capable of supporting the specimen, a detector including at least one camera (450A), wherein the detector is capable of resolving prescribed particles within the specimen (600), means for locating the prescribed particles in three dimension, a means for focusing electromagnetic radiation to a focal volume within the specimen; and a means for adjusting the relative positions of the sample stage and electromagnetic radiation focusing means, thereby positioning the prescribed particles within the focal volume.
