The present invention relates to N-(5,7-dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-2-yl) arylsulfonamide compounds of the general formula (I), process for preparation thereof from 2-amino-5,7- dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolopyrimidine and appropriately substituted benzenesulfonyl chloride and pyridinesulfonyl chloride compounds. The described compounds are effective as herbicides.
