A coupling, for use in connecting two rail vehicles and an intermediate bogie on which they are supported, comprises a supporting universal joint having a male part 8 2 and a female part 11 each having a part-spherical surface engaging a port-spherical surface of the other port, the female part 11 being mountable on the bogie, and a traction universal joint having a male part 5 and a female part 4 each having a part-spherical surface engaging a partspherical surface of the other part and each being concentric, at 0, with the parts 8 2 , 11 of the supporting universal joint, the female part 4 of the traction universal joint being carried on a tenon 1 for coupling to one vehicle while the male part 5 is carried on a spindle 7 spanning the arms of a U-section member 8 1 for coupling to the other vehicle, which member 8 1 recieves the tenon 1. The member 8 carries the part 8 2 . The parts 8 2 and 11 are connected by a vertical shaft 13 and a clearance 10 is provided between those parts. |
