PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording composition suitable for digital volume holography, which has a large storage capacity and a high sensitivity, and also to provide a holographic recording medium using the optical recording composition, which allows super-high density optical recording. SOLUTION: The optical recording composition contains a bicyclic cyclopropane derivative denoted by general formula (I). In the general formula (I): R<SP>1</SP>represents an alkylene group or the like; R<SP>2</SP>represents an alkyl group or the like, and X represents a divalent linking group selected from the group consisting of -COO- etc.; n and m each independently represent an integer ranging from 0 to 8, wherein n+m is an integer ranging from 0 to 8; Y represents a divalent linking group selected from the group consisting of -CR<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>- etc.; R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>each independently represent a hydrogen atom or the like; and r represents an integer ranging from 1 to 4.
