PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-quality carbon fiber precursor tow, which has excellent productivity, has reduced thickness unevenness in the tow width direction and reduced unevenness in the tow width in the tow length direction following reduction in tow width in order to stably produce the high-quality carbon fiber. SOLUTION: The method for producing a carbon fiber precursor tow comprises a first tow width narrowing process for spinning, drying and densifying a raw material of a carbon fiber precursor tow to give a tow and a narrowing the tow width by a guide and a grooved roll, a first interlacing process for interlacing the tow by an interlacing device having a flat rectangular crosssectional shape for jetting an air-fluid, a second tow narrowing process and a second interlacing process.
