Optically active ethenylphenyl-alcohols of formula (I) or its mirror imag e, wherein R1 is unsubstituted or substituted heteroaryl and R2 is phenyl or substituted aryl, are prepared by asymmetric hydrogenation of the correspon ding ketones applying hydrogen gas in the presence of specific platinum meta l complex catalysts.
