The assembly comprises a piercing needle 2 slideably attached to a sheath 6,7 wherein the piercing needle is moveable between two positions such that: in its first position the piercing needle is reversibly lockable such that its piercing end projects from said sheath to an extent to allow it, in use, to pierce an object and in its second position, the piercing needle is irreversibly locked such that its piercing end is contained within said sheath. The sheath may comprise telescopic portions 6, 7. The assembly may comprise a transparent chamber 9 in fluid communication with hollow needle 2. The assembly may be used for introducing a cannula which may be attached to projection 32. |
