Process and apparatus for the pre-folding of a web

The method involves moving a material web (1) in a web longitudinal direction, and moving out constantly spaced fold regions of the material web in two opposing directions from a web layer. Each fold region is provided with a fold line running transverse to the material web longitudinal direction. The fold regions are brought into a gap of a clamping device (19) for producing the fold lines. The fold lines are then formed by closing motion of the clamping device, and a material web run is controlled based on repeated punching or marking of the material web. An independent claim is also included for a device for pre-folding a web.
