摘要 In a network of games control terminals which have the capability of sending or receiving audio communication data between the players at the terminals, controlling logic is provided which determines whether an audio-communication task may be performed at any one terminal dependent upon the game status at that terminal. The consequence is that the number of players who can talk simultaneously is reduced, so that in practice there is less confusion over the network. For example, a player with the highest score in a competitive game across the network may be allowed to talk at other players who can only listen, Fig 5 (not shown); in alternatives, it may be the player who has collected a virtual object, reached a certain level, or performed certain actions who has temporary facility to talk, Figs 6 to 8 (not shown). Where individual game characters controlled by different players can be positioned in a common virtual game environment, talk may be allowed within certain virtual distances, eg in Fig 9, where the players controlling characters 1200c,d,e form one conversation group and can talk to each other but not to players controlling more distant group 1200f,g,h; only the player controlling 1200f can talk with players controlling 1200g and 1200h; and the player controlling character 1200i is completely out of communication.
