Prodn. of tube systems by butt joining glass tubes wherein the ends of the tubes to be joined are heated to the softening point and pressed together and then slightly pulled apart, wherein a current of gas is introduced into each section of tube being joined together, the cold ends of the tubes being blocked up until the instant of the slight separation. The slight pulling apart of the tubes enlarges the ID of the join which otherwise in much less than that of the tube forming a construction.
