The invention relates to a volumetric display device for generating a three-dimensional scene. In order to provide a volumetric display device which overcomes the drawbacks of the prior art and which is primarily less wavelength depending, the volumetric display device of the invention comprises a light source for providing light, focusing means with a plurality of focusing elements for receiving the light provided by the light source and creating a plurality of image points, each focusing element having a controllable focal length. The volumetric display device further comprises converging means for generating a visibility region from which a user may observe the three-dimensional scene represented by the plurality of image points when one or both of his eyes are situated in this area.
