A driver circuit of a liquid crystal display and a driving method thereof improve generation of heat of a source drive IC at a specific image pattern by selectively applying a precharge driving through the recognition of an image pattern. A data processing unit receives image data of n bit and calculates an average gray level. A level comparator(120) calculates the compared result by comparing the average gray level with a reference gray level. A mode setting unit sets up the precharging time by a comparison result. A precharge voltage input unit(140) applies the precharge voltage to the liquid crystal panel according to the set precharging time. Image data of 1 frame unit is inputted to the data processing unit.
