A plaster coating machine for applying plaster to a shaped substrate or moulding S is disclosed. The machine has a hopper 11 through which the substrate can pass, where the hopper has an entry and exit means. A closure means, formed of expanded foam and associated with the entry means prevents plaster from the receiving means exiting through the entry means. Plaster can be loaded into the hopper 11 and a gauge located at an exit from the hopper, gauges the amount of plaster to be applied to the substrate. The substrate S guided by guide 18 is driven along a table 10 by a drive mechanism which includes one or more belts 16 with non-slip surfaces. A downward pressure is applied to the substrate in the vicinity of belts 15 by a plurality of rollers 25 on mount 23 carried by pivotally mounted arms 19, 20.
