Animal model for toxicology and dose prediction

Provided is a method for generating a non-human vertebrate animal model having both normal tissue of mature phenotype and diseased tissue, both from a donor animal, comprising: (a) implanting immature normal tissue in or under a kidney capsule; (b) allowing the normal tissue to develop into a mature tissue; (c) implanting diseased tissue in or under the contralateral kidney capsule; and (d) allowing the diseased tissue to grow. Also provided is a similar method using two different locations of a fat pad or different fat pads as locations of the two implanted tissues. Further provided is a corresponding tissue model for tissues implanted in a kidney capsule or in a fat pad and a rodent having the tissue models. Also provided are methods for assessing the effect of therapeutic treatments and screening and testing of treatments using the tissue models and animals having the tissue models. Further provided are methods to produce such animal models.
