A system for monitoring an animal comprises a sensor subsystem for fixing to the animal; a computing subsystem for real-time processing of data provided by the sensor subsystem; and a communication subsystem coupling the sensor subsystem and the computing subsystem for passing sensor data from the sensor subsystem to the processing subsystem. The sensor subsystem includes at least one sensor for measuring a physical parameter associated with at least one limb of the animal. The subsystem is adapted to provide data sufficient for determining at least a trajectory of the limb of the animal. The communication subsystem can include a communication hub for attaching to an animal. The communication hub includes a receiver for accepting sensor data from sensors attached to the animal and a transmitter for providing data based on the accepted sensor data. The sensor subsystem can include a plurality of sensors with each including a transmitter for providing sensor data to the hub. The communication hub is configurable for receiving sensor data from a selection of the plurality of sensors attached to the animal. |
