An alumina carrier used for olefin oxidation, its preparation method, a silver catalyst made from the alumina carrier, and the application of the catalyst in olefin oxidation, especially in ethene oxidation for producing epoxyethane. The preparation method of the carrier includes the following steps: mixing alpha-alumina trihydrate and pseudo-hydrated alpha-alumina of suitable particle size, with a given weight of carbon-contained material, fluxing agent, fluoride and optional heavy alkali earth metal compound, adding binding agent and water, uniformly kneading, extrusion moulding, drying and calcining to obtain the alpha-alumina carrier, wherein the specific surface area is 0.2-2.0 m2/g, the total pore volume is 0.35-0.85ml/g, the pores whose diameter falls within 1-5mum take up 58-74% of the total pore volume, the water absorption rate is greater than 30% or equal the crushing strength is 30-120 N/grain. The silver catalyst is made up by soaking the carrier in argentamine solution containing alkali metal compound and alkaline earth metal compound, then drying and activating. |
