An information providing system for transmitting map data, a method therefor, and a storage medium having a program for realizing the method are provided to increase utility of data storage in a terminal and enhance efficiency in providing map data. An information providing system(200) comprises an information providing server(300), an information management server(400) and a database(500). The information providing server transmits information delivered from the information management server to the terminal and transmits information delivered from the terminal to the information management server. A registration manager(410) manages map registration in the database and confirms upload map information and map download information whenever the terminal requests it. A version manager(420) manages the map version stored in the database, and checks map version information. Therefore, the version manager can confirm map information of a new version by comparing map version information stored in the terminal with it. The map manager manages the whole mapping data stored in the database by layer and type. |
